Starting a new business means sometimes you have to make sacrifices. Obviously we make sacrifices every day and sometimes they are discriminating and other times they are an opportunity cost. This month we quit the T.V. We have all of 1 hour a day available for “free” time and I would much rather spend it outside or talking with my family then trying to catch up on the latest pseudo-drama on GLEE or House. DirecTV runs about $90 a month depending on the package you have, plus the electricity cost of running the associated components; 50” Plasma T.V., Receiver, Surround sound, etc. We decide that our money would be better spent on investing in our business and family rather than DirecTV.

This is an easy sacrifice we made to better our situation, but it made me wonder how could we make a sacrifice to better someone else’s situation? Maybe there are other sacrifices we can afford to make (that others may not) that will better someone else? Well we have the perfect opportunity this weekend with Thunder on the Lot. I have attended almost every TOL since its inception back in the days when it just barely filled the Used Car Lot at Robertson’s Honda in Palmdale. I have always enjoyed the bikes, but I’m a car guy and begged in the early days to have “Saturns” allowed being included in the import car mix. TOL is a charitable event now held at the Antelope Valley Fair grounds and this will be the first year I can remember I will not attend.

This is a harder sacrifice to accept, but because of our new business we just can’t attend TOL and run the store at the same time. So I decided to make one more sacrifice to still be involved with TOL (by proxy) and keep Vintage Styles Now open over the weekend.

We are going to donate 30% of every sale to Kids Charities of the Antelope Valley from Friday through Sunday when someone says “Thunder on the Lot” or “Kids Charities of the Antelope Valley” at checkout.

Go to Thunder on the Lot and have a great time, but don’t forget to stop by Vintage Styles Now sometime this weekend and check out our Vintage apparel from the 1950’s to present. If you find something you like bring it to the counter and say “Thunder on the Lot” and we will donate 30% of the sale to Kids Charities of the Antelope Valley.

How will you know? The receipt will show an item “Thunder 30% $0.00”

It’s the least we can do..considering I have to sacrifice my weekend of tire smoke, beer stains and sunburn for clothing, air conditioning and dress-up.

Open for business and this is not an april fools joke

Well on April 1 2011 we officially opened our store for business. We had a soft opening at the store and have also been doing a few festivals in the local community.

Currently we have all of our Polo Shirts on sale for $19.99. That includes Lacoste, Munsingwear and Polo by Ralph Lauren.

Also we have all of our Totally 80′s prom dresses on sale for 20% off.

Our total retail space is around 500 sq/ft, but it’s packed full of clothing dating back to the 1950′s. Most of what we currently have is 70′s and 80′s but we are increasing our supply of Rat Pack 60′s clothing every day. We also have hundreds of ties, some leather belts and cowboy boots and even a few hats.

We’re located at 759 West Lancaster BLVD across from LPAC. Come take a look at what we have.

Welcome to our blog for Vintage Styles Now.

Here we will document our progress as we develop our vintage clothing retailer in Lancaster, Ca. Eventually this blog will evolve into our style and status blog, but for now we will keep those who are interested up to date on how things are going.

Currently we are working on the legal details of the business and securing the necessary investment to have a successful business for many years to come. We are working to locate our store in down town Lancaster and have a few specific locations on or around the newly renovated BLVD in our sights. Our expected date of opening is the spring of 2011 coinciding with the spring fashion release.

Our grand opening will take place in the early spring and include a fashion show. The fashion show will feature men’s and women’s period specific styles from as far back as the turn of the century. Along with the pure vintage, a mix of vintage pieces integrated with today’s fashions will be featured to produce what we are all about, Vintage Styles Now. This fashion forward style is very popular with today’s youth and can be seen all over TV, movies and print. We will show the Antelope Valley how they can rock this style and at the same time make a unique statement about themselves. Gone are the days of getting caught in school with the same shirt as someone else in 3rd period. Gone are the days of having to stay on the other side of the club because some b!T(# has the same blouse as you. With Vintage Styles Now every item is unique and includes a history of wear that can only be described as Vintage.
